I decided to try out an etsy showcase

I have heard mixed reviews about whether purchasing a spot on the etsy showcase is worth the money or not. So I thought that I should see for myself. It was totally on a whim, but I decided that $7 wasn't that much money and that it wouldn't hurt to try it just once. I've already got a few new shop and item hearts and I've only been up for about an hour, so that's a plus! Have any of you ever purchased a showcase slot before and if so, what was your experience? Here are some screenshots of the item I chose.

These bird's nest magnets were my first choice, but I'm going to switch it out to the mushroom garden stakes sometime tomorrow. I'll probably change it a few more times too, just to get more of my items seen.

Sample items from the showcases are displayed at the top of the corresponding category pages. I chose to purchase a spot in the housewares showcase so that I could get some exposure for a few of my non-jewelry items. Here's a shot of the category page when my item was being displayed.

I'll summarize my showcase experience when my 15 minutes of purchased fame have come to an end!

Ohhh I so excited and curious to see how it goes for ya. I'm sure there are many of us out there that have thought the same thing...just haven't taken the plunge yet. Nice work! :)

i did a couple of showcases last month in the new jewelry sub- categories of bracelets and necklaces. i only got one heart out of it but it turned into a 3 item sale. i've purchased a few more spots for later this month, but mine are only for a day each.

I did purchase a showcase spot at the end of Nov. last year - got a few more hearts and views, but that was it. Hope this works out for you!!
Let me know if you are joining the recycled craft challenge. I purchased my entry yesterday!!

I wanted to try that too but after a research on etsy forum, I dropped the idea. :)

Hi Holly, Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog. Last yr. >< Oct & Nov. I purchased several showcase spots. They did me NO good as far as I could tell. BUT I really feel it had tons to do w/ the econ, new pres, etc. I'll bet you have a better response! It never hurts to try and it is cheap. BTW, did you sign up for Tim Adams etsy secrets thing? I did, now I've got mtns. of work to do. Best of luck.

I hope you get sales! I didn't realize you could change your items if you buy a showcase spot. Nice to know.

I tried it a few times when I first started. It was in Nov. and Dec. Can't say it did much for me. No sales.
But my store has evolved alittle, just $7.00 for 24 hours seems a bit steep to me. I'm probably just a cheap skate! But I can list or relist 35 times for that money!

Here's an update: I didn't make any sales, but I got a few item and shop hearts. I guess if those turn into sales eventually, then it would have been worth it. But as for now, I'd say that it wasn't. I probably won't ever purchase another spot in the showcases.

BusyBeadLady- you're exactly right. It's just a little too much money to spend on a single day of advertising. I think I'll try something different next time.

Thanks for your input, everybody!

I just did a showcase 2 days ago and got many more views but no sales yet. I am considering another with the changing the order that you suggested. I am hopeful.

I purchased a showcase for Aran knit stocking caps and they listed only one item. I tried to "reorder the position of my items" as I wanted them to appear-they said to click and drag but that didn't work. /so, I went to customer service and there is so service available on weekends (today is Sat and my showcase is for tomorrow)and wanted to get this matter resolved but no such luck.
