New stuff in my shop AND a new kitten!!

When I went to my hometown to work for my dad yesterday, he had a little surprise for me. He lives outside of town, where there are lots of feral animals. There are always wild kittens living nearby, but they usually won't let people get anywhere near them. Dad said that a few nights ago, one of them was crying outside of his door. He went outside and saw this tiny, gray kitten. So he gave her something to eat and named her Little Ricky (I have no idea where he came up with that).

My dad is single, so I think he's enjoying the company of this little fuzzball. And she seems to be warming right up to the idea of being around humans. When he brought her into the shop, she slowly walked up to me. She was very skeptical of me until she got close enough for me to pet her. Then I think she realized that I give good lovin' to sweet little kitties like her, so she quickly began to trust me. She hung out by my desk all day while I attempted to work. But I must admit, I'm easily distracted by sweet baby animals, so I took plenty of breaks to scratch her little head.

So now that you know the story behind the kitty that wandered into my dad's care, I'd like to introduce you to Little Ricky!! She may not be MY new kitten, but she'll be in the family so I'll get to see her often.

That's the only decent photo of her I ended up with because she's just so wiggly! But I did take a walk down to dad's pond to hang out with nature for a little bit. I know I've said it before, but I just love it there. This dandelion was massive.

I also snapped a photo of a gorgeous dragonfly that landed on a blade of grass near where I was standing. I was surprised by this one when I uploaded it, because I didn't realize how close I managed to get. You should have seen me out there. I was creeping ever-so-slowly up to this unsuspecting insect, trying to get a detailed shot of his crispy, metallic wings and his brightly-patterned body without scaring him off. Isn't he cool?

When I got home, I whipped out my camera yet again to photograph some new items for my shop. It's been too long since I've listed anything new, so I thought I'd try to get some fresh items up while I'm still on summer break. Once school starts next week, there's no telling how long it will be until I am able to work on my shop again. Here are the two new items I listed last night, and I should have a few more in the near future too.

Shiny vintage key necklace with blue crystal charm.

Vintage comic bookmark.

When I photograph my bookmarks, I like to use books that match the bookmark I'm trying to sell. For example, I used Fast Food Nation for the bookmark pictured above because I made a very similar face when I was reading that book.

So now I've got a question for my readers. If I only have time to read one more book before school starts back, which one do you think it should be? I can't wait to hear your recommendations!

Purty silver tabby! Welcome Little Ricky!

I was TOTALLY going to do a post about books soon! I've been reading up a storm lately and I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy and freaking LOVED it. It goes SUPER quick but is awesome. And I'm forever a fan of Christoper Moore. Funny, funny stuff!

I love that bookmark! It makes me smile. And so does Little Ricky! I love kittens so much! I'm not sure which book you should read.. the last couple I've read this summer have been flops!

Hey, I'm currently reading "The Road." I agree -- it's so good. Grey and I are reading it together. We're our own little book club. After I finish "1491," my next piece of nonfiction will be "Omnivore's Delimma" by Michael Pollan. So this isn't so much a list of recommendations as it is my own personal accounting. :)

More kitties? Awesome. Bookmarks seem pretty cool too.

While we're at it, The Road and anything Cormac McCarthy has written really are amazing books.

Have you ever read "Heartbreaking works of a Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers?
Its amazing.
That kitten is the cutest little fart I have ever seen!

I love reading your posts. The kitty is adorable and I'm happy to know she won't be feral. What kind of store does your dad run?

Great bookmark - I have FFN in my bookcase, but haven't read it yet. A book suggestion? Two of my all-time favorites: The Lords of Discipline by Pat Conroy and while it is long, i LOVED this book: Shogun by James Clavell. It is my dad and hubby's favorite book. I cried toward the end. I'd say Shogun would be my first suggestion. :-)

Awww Little Ricky is so sweet! I wouldn't be able to resist that eager stare either! I bet she will grow up knowing how lucky she is to have a loving home!

The dragonfly pic is great, the sneaking up worked! In summer here we sometimes have an abundance of dragonflies and hundreds get caught in our patio area, I get so sad that they cant all escape. I'll take some pics and show you if it happens again this year!

I am currently reading "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides, which is definitely an intriguing read!

What a gorgeous picture of your cat. David Sedaris again for me. I heart him!!!

I didn't realize you asked for recommendations either. Not usually my type of book but anything by Neil Gaiman is also great. Namely Neverwhere.

What an adorable kitten! And what an incredible shot of that dragonfly. The most recent book I read and enjoyed was "Look Me in the Eye" by John Robison.

Aww. I want a new kitty. We can't though, because Albany is allergic. Its not like we need something else to take care of anyway with 3 dogs and soon to be 3 kids.

Ricky is so cute! Is she going to be a shop cat? I always love that when I visit a business, where they have shop dogs or cats that live there... And I know what you mean about trying to take pictures, they move so much when they are young. ♥

Hmm... I'm not sure what you should read next, but I was introduced to a series of books by my neighbor recently that I'm enjoying...

They are Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich, and the first book in the set is called 'One For The Money'... the next is 'Two For The Show' etc.

It's about a 30 year old gal who is recently divorced, and recently unemployed... and looking for work. The only thing she can find is to work for her cousin Vinnie, who runs a Bail Bond agency, so she ends up becoming a Bounty Hunter, doing the small jobs... She knows nothing about the law, or how to handle a gun, but she's tough as nails at the same time... Pretty funny read, mostly humor, with a little bit of love, and some mystery all mixed together...

;)

Omg, Little Ricky is GORGEOUS!!! I'm jealous! I don't know your taste in books but I can never go wrong with Sarah Waters. LOVE her!

Love the photos - especially the dandelion head and dragonfly. Right now I am reading "The Mole People". It's a book about the homeless that live "under" NYC. It is both a very sad statement of our society and an amazing book about the will to live for those often forgotten by society.

I have a collection of dragonfly and other insect wings that I collected from the windowsill in my garage this winter. They are so lacy and intricate I can't toss them. I'm picturing an ACEO, but we'll have to see.

Thanks for having my back on the leash thing, it's getting hot over here!

I forgot about the book question, I just finished The Kite Runner and I was hooked. I loved it, so powerful and moving. But you can't go wrong with The Road, though I feel like it's more powerful if you have kids. I could be wrong.

Ricky is adorable!! The expression on that bookmark is so funny. I can pretty much imagine you making that face. Haha.

I'm currently reading this book call, 'The breakthrough experience' by Dr. John F. Demartini. It was so inspiring and interesting that I have to carry the book everywhere I go (including the bathroom). lol

What a cute kitty!! She'll be great company for your dad. Love the dandelion picture too. Well - all your pictures are amazing!

Aww.. thank you for your comment, Holly. You made me giggled out loud! hehe. I so missed you too!

I'm certainly honoured to have inspired you! Btw, did you manage to get my email with the photos I've taken to show you? That could be another inspiration for you.. Peharps a necklace that can write? In fact the bookmark you just make would make a fun necklace. Another of my crazy thoughts. lol

Oh one more thing. You asked if I've tried pet's food before. I did not, although my brother did! He bought Nono a cake specially from a pet's bakery store on his birthday. The store owner told him that all the pet food they sell are just like any human food, except they use milder ingredient.

My brother commented that the cake tasted really bland. I'm glad he did not start barking after eating. lol.

Awwww, what a super cute kitty!! And it's really a cute, different name, Little Ricky!

I love the bookmark, and the whole matching bookmark and book to photograph it is a great idea!

Oh my goodness! Little Ricky is so pretty! And I love that name. ;-) It's certainly random, but I love it.

Thanks for helping me sing Happy Birthday! I'm always the one that starts off when we have a family birthday gathering. Everybody looks at me and goes "ok, Caitlin! Start us off!" :P

For me, my last book of the summer is gonna have to be middlemarch by george eliot. Mostly just because I meant for it to be the FIRST book of the summer and that still hasn't happened. ;-)
