New Squirrels!

Some of you already know about my history with squirrels. For those who don't, I can sum it up by saying that my husband and I used to live in a third floor apartment near a tree. Our balcony looked like this:

As you can see, the local squirrels loved our place because we fed and watered them. In January, we bought our first house together and moved about 10 miles away from where we previously lived. I saw squirrels near our new house from the time we first moved here, so I created a similar setup in an attempt to attract them to the deck in our backyard. The little dishes you see on the left are food and water. There are also multiple feeders hanging in the trees, as well as a bird bath.

This "if you build it, they will come" mentality has been successful, and I'm happy to say we've got a whole slew of critters hanging out at our house.

I think this one may be young, but not quite a baby. Maybe he's a teenager!

This chubby little guy gave me a laugh. He was standing like an old man while he ate.

Those cute ceramic dishes were only 99 cents each at Big Lots. I bought them for the pure purpose of filling them with seeds and water so that the critters who visit my yard will have a little treat. See how much fun you can have with $2.00? I recommend trying something similar at your home near a window so you can see what kind of lovely creatures turn up!

Aww what a gorgeous squirrel! I can imagine crouching to take photos of him eating would have been very fun.

I wish I could entice wildlife near us, but I'm afraid I am living near a highway and they wont be coming close.

I do however have a box set up for our neighbours cat, he doesn't like the doggie's he lives with and jumps the fence to find refuge with us, its so cold out, I couldn't help but provide him with a warm spot!

omggg I want one! Not as a pet, just for one to visit. Im afraid our kitty scares off most critters around here. Although we had a duck that visited quite often one year.
Its lovely to have wildlife come into your garden, but im afraid I love cats too much to go without one :)

Totally Love your backyard! Everything about it. Love the potted garden, love the privacy and yard, love the deck. Love the squirrels! We used to feed squirrels at our old house, but there aren't a lot of trees where we live now... I know them little guys are out there, they just aren't here. So glad to see you settling in just fine in your new place. :)

Aw, how cute! I see a lot of squirrels around where we live.

I wanted to thank you for the sweet little comment you left on my blog! You always leave such nice comments on my blog. I think you are right-you do need to always follow your heart...rather that be with blog posting or something much bigger. ha ha

These squirrels are darlings! I wondered if they've followed you all the way from your previous place. Can you tell if they're the same ones? I wish I have a house built in nature too. This way, I'll always have cute friends to come by to play!

To answer your question, I'll only be leaving for my trip in late Oct. My training starts this Thurs though. :)

That's so sweet to feed the squirrels when most people are trying to get rid of them. I may have to start doing this with kids, they love watching the squirrels.

Squirrels are so cute! I wish I had a yard or at least a tree filled balcony! (although my cats would probably fight them!)

I love your jewelry creations also! You should take a look at my new site http://efreeme.com to post them (it's FREE!)

I think it's adorable that you welcome all types of wildlife onto your porch. Most people don't do that. But guess what? When the animals love you, you'll be protected always.

Or at least that's what Disney told me.

Clearly you need to build the giant slip and slide for the critters...you know, just so the neighbors don't think you're crazy :)

Love your pics!

You aren't alone, my Dad puts a pile of sunflower seeds out for the chipmunks where we can watch them come up and fill their cheeks. :D

We had 2 baby deer in our backyard this week. They were lying in the shade. So sweet!

Some are not too happy with the little guys but frankly I think they are quite adorable. Not too happy when they get my bird seed though!

So glad you brought the squirrels back! Outdoor friends are the best. Your new porch set up is great, too. It's like a squirrels playground out there, how could they not come?!

Those dishes are really cute! We don't have to feed the squirrels here. All the neighbors take turns growing corn on their fields so the squirrels are well fed :)
