Country Roads

Growing up in small-town Oklahoma, I've become very familiar with the country roads that connect one area to another. Even though I live in a much larger city now, I am still comforted by the simplicity of a rustic, bumpy road. Most of my family still lives in the same area I grew up in, and I make sure to take the scenic route when I go to visit them. Who needs highways and passing lanes when you can have a serene, casual drive through forests and pastures instead? Occasionally (okay, pretty much every time) I am known to roll down the windows and sing along with the music at the top of my lungs, because it's not like there's anyone to hear me releasing my inner goofball rock star.

Here are some images of roads, trails, and pastures I've captured along my journeys.

Where do you go when you need to just slow down and escape for a while?

That's gorgeous!
Friday I'll be posting some shots I took at my parents' cottage, that's my place to relax and unwind!

The woods around my house. When I am angry, I go into the woods in front. When I am sad, I go in the woods in the back.

Gotta love Oklahoma! I do!

I looooove driving in the outskirts of town! When I was younger I would drive all over Broken Arrow. I also like to take Hwy 75 to the BA to 169 to the turnpike and just make a big circle (I like driving fast, too). So comforting to be able to sing at the top of your lungs and regroup, refresh! <3

AMEN! We definitely have this in common. When I drive to my dad's house, I get to be on back roads for like 30 minutes and I soak it all up. Nothing beats that calm and quiet...well quiet except for my singing :) You pictures remind me a lot of the drive I take. Yay for rural area!

I go to bed when I need to get away, does that count?? I love driving on old country roads though, very therapeutic. These photos are lovely and make me feel all dreamy.

Lovely pics Holly, I love the 2nd sunset one the most, kind of looks like the trees are glowing and magical! I love belting out a tune or several when I am alone in the car too, you are not alone there.
Yep, we definitely have to do a swap, in fact, I'm going to email you about it tonight! ;)

Beautiful photos! I live in the country down one of those roads :) Though it is lined with farmers fields, not trees.
If you are ever traveling down one of our roads - stop in for coffee!

the ocean! In fact we went there yesterday! and saw the most amazing sunset as we were driving down the 101, to meet friends for dinner.

I always think of you, when we travel, because I love all these snapshots you take of your journeys... I wish I had taken a picture of that sunset last night, so pretty.

Ever since we moved to Oregon, we knew we didn't want to live in the rat race of Portland, so we chose to move to the outskirts... and I too am enjoying all the country roads around here that lead from one place to the next.

Nature was meant to be enjoyed... why not visit the road less traveled?

:D

Gorgeous pictures. Beautiful landscape. I moved from Florida two month ago to upstate New York. Now I'm living in the countryside. Awesome! I'm really happy! I'm also taking some pictures about the roads, nature, waterfalls, etc.

Hugs
Lolo :-)

I just wanted to say thank you for your very sweet comment on my blog - you're too lovely!

I'm such a city girl, so there is nothing even close to these images where I live. I usually head down to the beach, it's about a 5 minute drive away and watch the waves x

I liked your post - sometimes we need to just slow-down. I head to the beach, but not the one 3 blocks from our house - Robert Moses by the lighthouse - in Fall and Winter when hardly anyone else is there - except birdwatchers.

Beautiful pics, Holly! I love it that you sing at the top of your lungs (with the windows down of course) on road trips...everyone should!
