Oklahoma Renaissance Festival 2013

About five years ago, I took a trip to the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival. It was my first time to attend anything of the sort, and I fell completely in love with the idea of escaping into a land of enchantment and history for a weekend.  I failed to make it back the next few years when the festival returned each May, but I always daydreamed about the costumes, entertainment, and overall jolly times I experienced when I visited before.  So this year, when my dad informed me he had tickets to this much-publicized event and asked if I'd care to go, I jumped on the opportunity.  I plotted out a day that worked with my schedule and mentally crossed the days off the calendar until the weekend arrived with all the excitement of a starry-eyed wench in search of adventure.  Finally, the day came and we took a mini road trip to a nearby town and got our medieval groove on.

Road Tripping in Oklahoma

I returned from the Faire with a few captures to remember this storybook setting by.  Brace yourself for epic battles, a gypsy caravan, maypole dancing, musicians, cute shops selling handcrafted goodies, and even an enchanted forest!

I basically had to be forced out of the Faerie Forest because I found myself just standing around in awe.  It's quite possible that I considered packing my bags and setting up a little home for myself among the trees and painted mushrooms.  This event always stirs my imagination.  Have you ever been to a renaissance festival before?

Looks like you had fun :) My husband's family is a big fan of the renaissance festival so we went with them several years ago and it was pretty entertaining (and interesting)!

I totally don't remember that tree monster thing though! It looks awesome. Did they still have someone dressed up in a cool bear costume? That was my favorite part :)

I've never been to a proper Festival, those we have a Renaissance Market in October, but not all the sellers are dressed up.

I so wish I could do a proper US roadtrip and be able to meet you! =D

How I wish we have something like this here! It's really great to see everything, even if only in pictures.

I'm disappointed we never checked this out when we lived in Oklahoma... for four years! We didn't explore anything past bricktown or fuzzys tacos, basically.

I did recently go to a medieval festival that was actually at a medieval castle, which sort of blew my mind!!
